TROUBLESHOOTING

The ignition system fails to operate (no spark or intermittent spark).

Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s):

  • Seat

  • Side cover (left/right)

  • Shroud (left/right)

  • Fuel tank

  • Air filter case cover

  1. Check the ignition system wire harness connections.

NG→

Reconnect.

OK↓
  1. Check the fuse(s).

    Refer to CHECKING THE FUSES.

NG→

Replace the fuse(s).

OK↓
  1. Check the battery.

    Refer to CHECKING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY.

NG→
  • Clean the battery terminals.

  • Recharge or replace the battery.

OK↓
  1. Check the spark plug.

    Refer to CHECKING THE SPARK PLUG.

NG→

Correct or replace the spark plug.

OK↓
  1. Check the ignition spark gap.

    Refer to CHECKING THE IGNITION SPARK GAP.

OK→

The ignition system circuit is OK.

NG↓
  1. Check the ignition coil.

    Refer to CHECKING THE IGNITION COIL.

NG→

Replace the ignition coil.

OK↓
  1. Check the engine stop switch.

    Refer to CHECKING THE SWITCHES.

NG→

Replace the handlebar switch (left).

OK↓
  1. Check the crankshaft position sensor.

    Refer to CHECKING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR.

NG→

Replace the crankshaft position sensor.

OK↓
  1. Check the stator coil assembly.

    Refer to CHECKING THE STATOR COIL.

NG→

Replace the stator coil assembly.

OK↓
  1. Check the ignition system wire harness.

    Refer to CIRCUIT DIAGRAM.

NG→

Repair or replace the wire harness.

OK↓

Replace the ECU.

The drive mode does not operate.

Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s):

  • Seat

  • Side cover (left)

  • Shroud (left)

  1. Check the handlebar switch coupler (left) connections.

NG→

Reconnect.

OK↓
  1. Check the handlebar switch (left).

    Refer to CHECKING THE SWITCHES.

NG→

Replace the handlebar switch (left).

OK↓
  1. Check the ignition system wire harness.

    Refer to CIRCUIT DIAGRAM.

NG→

Repair or replace the wire harness.

OK↓

Replace the ECU.
